Hiking
Bryson City, and the surrounding area has dozens of easily accessible trails, ranking from beginner, all the way up to expert. Whether you have a passion for hiking, or just want to get out and see the mountains, we have the trails for you.
Train Rides
The Great Smoky Mountain Expressway starts its journey in the middle of downtown Bryson City. Just a short walk from your door. This fun family adventure will take you on a scenic trip through the smokies in a way that just can’t be matched.
Rafting
The Nantahala Gorge is just a quick twenty minute drive, from West Oak, and offers more than just a breathtaking view of the water. You can get a whole group together for some guided white water rafting trips, or if you prefer, you can go down the river solo in a kayak! This is an adventure you can’t pass up.
Swimming
Along with the Nantahala Gorge, and Deep Creek National Park, which both offer the best fresh water swimming around, there is also a public pool at the Swain County Recreation Park. You can also take the kids to the playground right outside, while you enjoy lunch on the covered picnic tables!
Photography
It’s no surprise that many photographers love this area. There is beauty everywhere you look. From the quiet downtown of Bryson City, to the incredible waterfalls at Deep Creek. Everywhere you go, be sure to take a camera!
Fishing
The Great Smoky Mountains is known for the fresh fish that are just waiting to caught! We even have a Trout Fishing Museum! Beautiful rainbow and brown trout are ripe for the picking all along the rivers and creeks in the area. Just be sure to pick up a fishing permit!
Tubing
Deep Creek National Park offers beautiful trails and waterfalls, but the tubing is something you just can’t resist. Relaxing on a tube, floating down the river on a hot day. Nothing beats that!
Biking
There are plenty of nice trails and paths all over Bryson City that offer the perfect mountain biking experience. There is even a local bicycle shop that is here to offer you tips on where to take your next ride. Forgot you bike at home? No worries. Bryson City Bicycles can rent you one for the trip!
